Built Around Trust and Transparency

We believe pet parents deserve honest guidance and clear communication at every visit. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive at our hospital.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of pets do you treat?

We care for cats and dogs (unfortunately we do not care for exotic pets or reptiles).

From young puppies and kittens to senior pets who may need more support, our care is always tailored to your pet’s age, lifestyle, and medical history.

What services do you offer?

At Upper Village Veterinary Hospital, we provide a full range of care, from routine visits to more advanced medical support, all under one roof.

Our services include:

  • Wellness exams
  • Illness and sick visits
  • Vaccinations
  • Diagnostics, including imaging and lab work
  • Dental care
  • Surgery, including spaying and neutering, as well as soft tissue and orthopedic procedures
  • Emergency and trauma care
  • Parasite prevention
  • Nutrition guidance
  • Microchipping
  • End-of-life care

Our focus is always on prevention first, while also being fully equipped to diagnose and treat medical conditions when they arise.

What vaccinations does my pet actually need?

Vaccinations play an important role in protecting your pet from serious, and often preventable, diseases.

That said, not every pet needs the exact same plan. We take an individualized approach based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and risk factors, and we’ll walk you through what’s recommended and why so you can feel confident in your decisions.

What is end-of-life care?

We know this can be one of the hardest parts of being a pet owner. Our approach to end-of-life care is centered around comfort, dignity and quality of life.

We’ll guide you through what to expect, talk through pain management and palliative care options, and help you make the decision that feels right for your pet and your family.

When the time comes, we also offer humane euthanasia and can support you with aftercare arrangements, including cremation services.

Do you accept new clients?

Yes, we do. We’re always happy to welcome new patients and build long-term relationships with local pet families.

If you’re visiting us for the first time, our team will walk you through what to expect and make sure both you and your pet feel comfortable from the start.

Do you accept walk-ins?

We always do our best to accommodate pets that need to be seen.

If your pet is unwell or you are concerned, we will make every effort to fit you in the same day rather than sending you elsewhere. That said, we do recommend booking an appointment whenever possible so we can give your pet the time and attention they deserve.

Do you accept pet insurance?

Many pet insurance plans work on a reimbursement basis, meaning you pay for the visit upfront and submit a claim to your provider afterward.

We are happy to provide all the documentation you need to make that process as smooth as possible. If you have Trupanion, they offer a direct billing option which can simplify the process even further.

If you have questions about your specific plan, our team can help guide you.

Do you offer after-hours care?

We know that concerns don’t always happen during regular hours.

We offer 24/7 veterinary telehealth support, where you can speak with a registered veterinary technician who can guide you on what to do next, whether that’s monitoring at home, booking an appointment, or seeking emergency care.

This service is available to anyone in our community. Simply call us after hours at (647) 560-9276, stay on the line, and press 5 to be connected.

How should I prepare my pet for a veterinary visit?

Preparing your pet for a visit can make the experience much smoother for both of you.

Bring any medical records, a list of medications, and notes about any changes in behaviour or symptoms you have noticed. Dogs should be on a leash, and cats should be in a secure carrier for safety.

If your pet tends to feel anxious, let us know ahead of time. In some cases, we can prescribe calming medications in advance and adjust our approach to help keep them as comfortable as possible during their visit.

What are your hours of operation?

We’re open extended hours to make it easier to fit veterinary care into your schedule.

Our clinic is open Monday to Thursday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

If you’re looking for a Saturday veterinarian in Toronto, you’ll find that flexibility here. Feel free to call us to book a time that works best for you.

How do I make an appointment with my Toronto veterinarian?

It’s easy! Call (647) 560-9276 or schedule your appointment online. Upper Village Veterinary Hospital is here to support your pet’s health at every stage of life.
