Puppy and Kitten Vaccines: Building a Strong Start
Just like babies, puppies and kittens need extra protection while their immune systems are still developing. Vaccinations usually begin 6 – 8 weeks of age and are given every 3 – 4 weeks until they’re about 16 weeks old.
These early boosters build the antibodies your pet needs to stay safe from highly contagious diseases like:
- Parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and leptospirosis (in dogs)
- Feline distemper/panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and Feline Leukemia in outdoor cats (in cats)
- Rabies, once they’re old enough
This first round sets them up for a healthy foundation that lasts well into adulthood.
Adult Pets: Maintaining Protection
Once your pet finishes their initial series, we’ll switch to a maintenance schedule. Most Toronto pet vaccination boosters are given annually or every three years, depending on the vaccine and your pet’s lifestyle.
We’ll review everything during your pet’s annual wellness exam, making sure their protection stays current without unnecessary repetition. If your dog loves hiking, boarding, or dog parks, we might also recommend vaccines for Bordetella or Lyme disease. For indoor-only cats, their needs may be different. Every plan is tailored to them.

Travel and Special Requirements
Heading out of town with your pet? Whether you’re crossing the border or flying overseas, some destinations require proof of specific vaccinations. Dr. Steven Davidson is certified to issue official travel health certificates and help you prepare all necessary documentation.
