A Simple Guide to Your Dog’s Vaccination Schedule in Toronto

March 24, 2026
SHARE

Vaccines are one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your dog’s long term health. Still, many families are unsure about timing, boosters, and what is actually necessary.

If you are searching for a dog vaccination schedule in Toronto, ON, you are likely looking for clarity. Not just a list of shots, but a clear explanation of what your dog needs and why.

Here is how we approach vaccinations at Upper Village Veterinary Hospital.

Why Vaccines Matter

Vaccines help your dog build immunity against serious and often life threatening diseases. Some of these illnesses, like rabies, are also a public health concern.

Vaccination is not just about protecting one dog. It protects the family and the wider community as well.

At the same time, vaccines should never feel automatic or rushed. We review each dog’s age, lifestyle, and health history before making recommendations.

Puppy Vaccination Timeline

Puppies typically begin their vaccine series between six and eight weeks of age.

From there, boosters are given every three to four weeks until they are about sixteen weeks old. This series helps build strong immunity while their immune system is still developing.

Core vaccines for puppies usually include protection against distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, leptospirosis and rabies. We walk families through each one so you understand exactly what it protects against.

Adult Dog Vaccination Schedule

After the first year, most adult dogs receive booster vaccines either annually or every three years, depending on the specific vaccine.

During your dog’s wellness exam, we review their record carefully. If your dog spends time at daycare, boards frequently, travels, or visits dog parks, we may recommend additional protection such as Bordetella or Leptospirosis.

If your dog lives a quieter lifestyle, their needs may be different.

Every schedule is individualized.

What If My Dog Missed a Booster?

Life gets busy. If a booster was missed, do not panic.

Sometimes we simply resume the schedule. In other cases, we may need to restart a series to ensure proper immunity. We will guide you step by step so there is no uncertainty.

Vaccines and Preventive Care Go Hand in Hand

Vaccinations work best when combined with regular wellness exams, parasite prevention, and dental care.

During each visit, we do more than administer a vaccine. We examine your dog thoroughly, discuss any changes you have noticed, and answer questions about behaviour, nutrition, and overall health.

Preventive care is about consistency and relationship, not just injections.

Choosing a Veterinary Team You Trust

We know that when people come to us and say they are looking for a reasonable vet near me, they are often looking for fair pricing and honest guidance.

We believe reasonable care means transparent recommendations and clear explanations. We never recommend vaccines that are unnecessary, and we always explain why something is important before moving forward.

Good care takes time. Trust builds over years, not visits.

Keeping Your Dog Protected

If you are unsure where your dog stands in their vaccination schedule, we are happy to review their records and create a clear plan.

Call Upper Village Veterinary Hospital at (647) 560-9276 to schedule your dog’s next wellness visit.

We will walk through everything together so you can feel confident that your dog is protected, appropriately, and thoughtfully.
