Dignified cremation services to honour your pet’s memory
At Upper Village Veterinary Hospital, we honour every stage of your pet’s life. We view the end of life as a transitional phase for both your beloved four-legged family member and the human members of your family. One of the ways we show respect for your pet is by offering dignified cremation services.
What is pet cremation?
Organizations such as the International Association of Pet Cemeteries and Crematories advance the ethical care of pets as they transition. It is important to know that the same care is taken with human cremations and with the highly qualified pet crematories that we have selected as partners in this journey.
What if my pet passes away at home?
We are here for you and can advise on the next steps. We generally recommend that you carefully place your pet on a blanket or another surface that can support its body weight until further arrangements can be made. When you contact us, we can provide information on what to do as we maintain many good relationships with some of the area’s top end-of-life organizations.
What happens to my pet after euthanasia?
If you decide to proceed with euthanasia for your pet, whether it’s a dog or a cat, they will be treated with the highest level of dignity and respect while under our care. Our facility offers a calm environment, allowing you to make thoughtful decisions about memorializing and celebrating your pet’s life without feeling rushed. We recognize that this is a difficult time, and it may take your family some time to process everything and decide together.
Do I need to make arrangements for cremation?
We understand that you have a lot to manage during this challenging time, and we want to make this process easier for you. With our partnerships, you can have one less thing to worry about. However, we also recognize that some pet parents may want to be more involved in the after-care of their beloved pets. We are here to support you to the extent you desire.
Typically, we handle all cremation arrangements for you. Once your pet’s cremains are ready for pickup, we will contact you at the phone number on file. There are numerous options available to honour your pet through our services, including special memorial keepsakes that may be included with the cremains.
Since this can be an emotional experience, you may wish to have someone accompany you when collecting your pet’s cremains.
What if I’m having a really tough time dealing with the loss of my friend?
Be gentle with yourself. Grief is a natural part of saying goodbye, and there is no “right” way to navigate it. Many families find that honouring their pet’s memory through stories, photos, or quiet reflection can be deeply healing. Your pet’s life was full of joy, love, and moments that mattered. They are not defined by their final days, but by the bond you shared. Take care of yourself during this time, and surround yourself with people who truly understand the depth of your loss.
We understand how difficult it can be to make end-of-life decisions. When you are ready to discuss them at any point in your personal journey, contact your us at Upper Village Veterinary Hospital. Our clinic is located at 430 Eglinton Avenue West, in midtown Toronto, ON, and can be reached at (647) 560-9276.
